A Global Pension Fund ’s book of record is updated daily through an overnight batch process which is dependent upon multiple systems and inputs to complete successfully. Batch jobs are designed to receive, update and process critical information of which business processes are the consumers. Batch jobs are dependant upon other batches or file transfers to complete. Batches can fail to run at their regularly scheduled time for many reasons such as failure to complete or receive a dependant batch or file transfer. When batches fail to run, it has significant impacts on groups awaiting the output of those batch runs for their morning processes and systems that are consuming the outputs generated by the book of record system.
Currently the frequency, severity and nature of impact to the multiple user groups/customers are not well understood. Further it is not clear what the top issues and problem areas are that most user groups face when a batch fails. It is also unclear as to which current technology initiatives underway will resolve the top issues faced by customers of the batch process. Lastly, there is not a well defined end-to-end current state process flow readily available or validated for its currency.
